Mount Union, Pa. — Heidi Glunt, Mount Union Area Senior High School secretary, is known for her positive, organized, and dedicated lifestyle. She brings each of these traits into her daily job as the high school’s secretary.

When the COVID pandemic began in 2020, Mrs. Glunt was on the lookout for a job. When the secretary position came to light, she knew that it was the career for her. In 2020, Mrs. Glunt became the new Mount Union Area Senior High School secretary. Starting a new job can often be frightening and intimidating. Mrs. Glunt described her job as, “Very overwhelming. The diversity of day-to-day tasks can be hard to get the grasp of, which also makes days overwhelming at times.”

The high school secretary position holds extreme importance in the district due to the complex schedule and all the various tasks that must be completed in a day’s time. Mrs. Glunt plays an important role in keeping the high school running smoothly. A typical day consists of record keeping, handling phone calls, assisting students and teachers, completing state reports, organizing mail, dealing with criminal complaints, updating forms and information, calling substitutes, finding coverage, and performing several other duties.

Though most of Mrs. Glunt’s work is done independently, there are a handful of days when she assists other staff members, such as Principal Chad Mickle and SRO Dennis Drake. She typically helps handle situations involving behavioral issues in the building. Mrs. Glunt expressed gratitude for the teamwork and shared commitment other staff members bring to those moments throughout her day.

In every job, an employee will always have their hard days. Mrs. Glunt’s hard days are caused when there are different activities being held in the building and when the students are having difficult days. Mrs. Glunt claimed, “When activities are being held in the building, it causes a busier day and sometimes causes slight chaos. Children having difficulties cause a more stressful day for me, because it is hard to juggle my job as is, let alone resolving behavior issues.” Despite having difficult days here and there, Mrs. Glunt reported that she has no regrets stepping into this position. “I love what I do and the position I hold in this district.”
