Mount Union, Pa. — Mount Union Student Council advisors Haley Krause and Danielle Solt, along with student council members, are preparing for the homecoming dance to be held on October 18. Mrs. Krause and Ms. Solt took on the roles of student council advisors around this time last year, after concerns arose that there might not be a homecoming dance because of a lack of committee members and mentors. Mrs. Krause shared, “The position opened, and no one opted to fill it last year, which put the school in danger of losing homecoming. Danielle and I stepped in last minute so that did not happen. Last year was a little more hectic because of that, but this year has been much more fun as we are able to do a lot more and feel more prepared. Danielle and I both love our students and thoroughly enjoy creating positive experiences for them, so student council is a joy for us.”

Not only are both student council advisors working hard to make this event fun for students, but the club members are also diligently preparing for it. Ms. Solt said, “All of the student council is definitely needed, so it’s more of an all-hands-on-deck situation. So, everybody has a role in decorating and everybody’s creative eye is encouraged.” Ms. Solt explained that many supplies and decorations, such as tables, chairs, and photo props, are needed for the dance, so more student participation is always appreciated. The student council also has the task of determining the theme for this dance. The majority voted on the theme “Hollywood Premiere.” Ms. Solt said she found inspiration for the theme on Pinterest and is using funds raised by students this year, along with leftover funds from the previous school year.

Students are especially excited for the election of homecoming king and queen. The homecoming court is comprised of twelve seniors, six males and six females. The male students include Micah Atherton, Aspen Brumbaugh, Jacob Creitz, Rowan McClain-Hartman, Abram Weirich, and Evan Yakymac. The female candidates are Kara Benson, Sydnee Harris, Genesis Henry, Delaney Ronk, Giulia Whitesel, and Sayde Wise. On October 17, Mount Union football will play Claysburg-Kimmel High School, and the homecoming queen will be announced during halftime. The following day, the king will be crowned at the homecoming dance.

Both Mrs. Krause and Ms. Solt are optimistic that students will have a memorable time at the dance. The advisors said they are more than excited for the upcoming weekend, and Mrs. Krause added, “It’s always so rewarding to see all the hard work come together.”
