Mount Union, Pa. — This year’s prom is set to be an unforgettable night with the theme “Denim and Diamonds.” Inspired by a favorite gala theme used in the community several years ago, the event will incorporate western-inspired touches and a beautiful countryside backdrop. Students can expect an evening that is both stylish and unforgettable.
The prom will be held on May 16, 2026 at Atkinson Manor, a venue located within the school district. According to organizers, the location was selected for both convenience and community support. Yvonne Hoppel, senior class advisor, stated, “It was chosen not only for its convenience and accessibility for our students, but also to support our town and local community, and by selecting a nearby venue, we can keep the celebration close to home.”
While the venue itself has established several rules and restrictions, organizers emphasized that they intend to enhance safety and organization by using two School Safety Officers (SSOs), along with faculty and staff chaperones, throughout the event. “These measures are designed to allow staff and security personnel to effectively monitor student safety for the duration of the event,” Mrs. Hoppel said. Organizers also noted that students will not be permitted to return to their vehicles after entering the venue, and anyone who leaves the event will not be allowed reentry.
Two separate parking areas will be designated: one for prom attendees with parking passes and another for spectators. Only students attending prom will be permitted inside the venue once doors open at 5:30 p.m., while spectators will be limited to designated outdoor areas for photos and must leave the property by 7 p.m.
Prom tickets will cost $45 per person, remaining consistent with prices from recent years. The ticket price covers venue rental, decorations, food, entertainment, and event supplies. It also helps support the tradition of allowing seniors to attend prom free of charge. Funding for prom comes primarily from the junior class, with additional contributions from seniors. Students begin fundraising as early as freshman year to help offset the costs of prom and senior-year activities. “Fundraisers held throughout all four years of high school help build a shared fund that is specifically intended to support major events like prom,” Mrs. Hoppel noted.
Beyond the decorations and formal attire, organizers say the most meaningful part of prom is watching students enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime high school experience. Mrs. Hoppel elaborated, “Prom is one of the most exciting and memorable events of a student’s high school career. Seeing students take pride in the occasion and having a great time together is one of the things that makes prom such a special and rewarding event.”
This year’s prom court includes 10 students, made up of five girls and five boys. The girls on the court are Kara Benson, Sydnee Harris, Madalynn Musick, Genesis Henry, and Sayde Wise. The boys are Jacik Hess, Rowan McClain-Hartman, Evan Yakymac, Garrett Gearholt, and Micah Atherton. Prom King and Queen will be announced later that evening after attendees cast their votes upon entering the venue.
As the school year comes to a close, students and organizers alike are looking forward to celebrating a memorable evening together.
