Mount Union, Pa. — The Mount Union Trunk or Treat event was held Oct. 27, 2026 in the Mount Union Area High School parking lot, bringing together the community for Halloween fun.

From 6 to 7:30 p.m., students from Shirley Township and Kistler elementary schools gathered for the annual event. Hundreds of children showed up to the Mount Union Area High School parking lot to enjoy the festivities. Parents and kids alike enjoyed the festive atmosphere filled with candy, laughter, and spooky decorations on the trunks of nearby vehicles.

Trunk or Treat has been around for many years, with each elementary school originally hosting its own event. Then, in 2020, the schools collaborated to create one big Trunk or Treat event in the high school parking lot.

PTO members like Alicia Varner help organize the event to create a welcoming atmosphere. “It provides a safe, fun, and family-friendly environment for children while helping neighbors connect; local businesses get involved, and community organizations build lasting relationships,” Varner said.

With more space available, the schools have also invited local businesses and organizations such as The Roast Post, Rhone Bussing, Flasher and Oil, Smith Excavating, the Mount Union Fire Company, and IFC Services to participate in the gathering. They each donate candy for Trunk or Treat and even decorate their own trunks for the celebration.

When asked what the community should take away from the event, Varner said, “Trunk or Treat is more than just candy and costumes; it’s an opportunity to bring our community together!”
